Don’t let the beautiful cover fool you! I have a large library of home decorating books, and this one was a major disappointment. The sumptuous interior on the cover is not representative of the majority of other interiors depicted inside. If, on the other hand, you are a fan of more modern, stream-lined and rather formulaic presentations, you might enjoy this. I, however, did not feel it was worth the price paid.

Like Charlotte Moss on the east coast, Suzanne Tucker creates exquisitely beautiful, impeccably perfect trophy homes for very, very, very rich people. There isn’t a single item in any of these rooms that doesn’t represent the best that money can buy. There are no surprises, no whimsical touches, no sign that real people live here. For me, these rarified rooms are devoid of personality, not to mention that elusive design element, soul. I much prefer, and highly recommend, Suzanne Kasler’s new book, Inspired Interiors. Kasler has a little bit of a bohemian in her, and it really comes through in her charming designs.

I’m not sure how someone could look at this book and call it a disappointment. I collect books on architecture and interior design and have hundreds of them. This is one of my new favorites. The projects are beautiful and the photography and views exquisite. Certainly, if your tastes run more to the everyday house and wish to find ideas to bring to your own humble abode, you might not find this tome entirely simpatico, but I’m sure there are plenty of how-tos from BH&G that will better serve you.

So glad to have this book in my collection of ‘Shelter Porn’! Wonderful rooms – quite luxurious. Suzanne Tucker is versatile, yet whatever the setting, manages to bring that enveloping sense of comfort to the home.

I had the fortunate pleasure of hearing her introduce John Saladino at a lecture at the San Francisco Antique Show in October 2009. At that event, my girlfriend nudged me and said, ‘She is a fine designer in her own right’, and this book speaks volumes to that comment.

This book is quite good for someone wanting to know – by reading and looking at the photos – how to capture that grand sense of scale. She does it quite well and learned from a master, Michael Taylor. Other elements of design are covered, also.
